Texas A&M Permanent Rivals

Missouri Tigers – The Tigers of Mizzou and the Aggies of Texas A&M have one of the shortest rivalries in the Southeastern Conference at this point, but it’s not without its passion. They played football for the first time in 1957 in Columbia, MO with the Aggies winning the game 28-0. The young men from College Station went on to win the first 6 meetings played over the following 42 years. However, since Mizzou’s first win in the series in 2002, the Tigers are 6-4 up ’til now.

This rivalry doesn’t end with the football season. These two get after it hard on the basketball court as well. Now that they are permanent opponents, at least for the next 4 years anyway, this matchup has the potential to grow into something special. 

LSU Tigers – Despite their fairly close proximity and perpetual recruiting battles, LSU and A&M have only played each other 59 times going all the way back to 1899. They have played twice in bowl games over the years with LSU winning both. The 1944 Orange Bowl and the 2011 Cotton Bowl Classic. 

The “Bayou Bengals” lead the overall series with the Aggies, 35-21 with three ties. This years’ tilt will happen on October 25th in Death Valley/Tiger Stadium – Baton Rouge.

P.S. There seems to be some discrepancy in the respective win totals for this series. If any of you has definitive proof what the numbers are, please let me know at admin@allsectalk.com. Winsipedia.com says LSU leads 32-24-3 while 12thman.com reports LSU 35-21-3. Any help is greatly appreciated. 

Texas Longhorns – While some of the other schools around the conference are being asked to “manufacture” rivalries that didn’t exist in the past, it’s safe to say that the Texas Longhorns are not one of them. The ‘Horns have 3 very legit rivalries that go back well over 100 years. Their first meeting with Texas A&M was on October 19, 1894 when they trounced the Aggies 38-0. The next time they played was on October 22, 1898 when they beat them 48-0. In fact, it wouldn’t be until their 12th meeting, in 1902, that the Aggies scored a single point. That is one crazy auspicious start to a rivalry. Over the years, things for the bunch from College Station did get a bit better, however, Texas owns a commanding lead in the overall series 77-37 with 5 ties. 

The annual renewal of the “Lone Star Showdown” was ended in 2011 when the Aggies joined the Southeastern Conference. It would be 13 years before the madness would resume. Although there were attempts made to schedule each other after the split, nothing ever came of it and fans on both sides were forced to continue trolling one another electronically.

But Halleluiah, Texas decided to join the SEC themselves starting conference play in 2024. And who was there on their schedule? You guessed it, the Aggies! And the annual rivalry is now a conference game for each and is guaranteed indefinitely.
