Auburn Tigers – “The Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry” Who knew?! Auburn and Georgia have been beating each others brains out going all the way back to 1892. Over the 132 years since, they have met up 128 times. I find that incredible! The 4 years they didn’t play was due to a rematch not being scheduled after the first game in 1893, in 1897 Georgia disbanded its team early in the season following the fatal on-field injury of one of its players (Yikes!), in 1917 and 1918, Georgia didn’t field a team during World War I, and in 1943, Auburn didn’t field a team due to World War II.
The all-time series stands at Georgia leading 64-56-8 with the Bulldogs having the better of it recently, winning 7 in a row going back to 2017. In 2025, they renew their hostilities on October 11th in Jordan-Hare Stadium in Auburn, AL.
P.S. 8 ties! Wow! How many of those involved Pat “the Tie” Dye? Lol!
Florida Gators – “The World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party”, unsurprisingly, is one of the 3 permanent games assigned to the Georgia Bulldogs and Florida Gators for the next four years. That was never going to be a question really, but where the game will be held in 2026 and 2027 was certainly a question. The contract between the two schools and the city of Jacksonville ends after this years’ game on November 1st. EverBank Stadium, the home of the NFL’s Jacksonville Jaguars, will be under renovation for the next two seasons. It’s worth noting that the schools and the city have announced the resumption of the game at EverBank Stadium from at least 2028 through 2031, however, a longer term deal is in the works and should be finalized without too much delay. Rather than play a 2 year home and home series, the teams have announced that they will keep the “neutral site” thing going no matter what. The game will be held at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, GA (the home of the Atlanta Falcons) next year and at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, FL (the home of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers) in 2027.
This game has been played 102 times since 1915 with Georgia taking 56 of the meetings and Florida taking 44, while they only “kissed their sister” twice (tied).
South Carolina Gamecocks – The genesis of this series was happened on November 3rd, 1894. They have renewed hostilities 76 times since then. Georgia has a significant “leg up” in the overall series, winning 55 times while losing only 19. The teams did tie 2 times, once in 1962 and again in 1964.
If you ask most Georgians and South Carolinians they will tell you that the problem with the other side is that they are only separated by the width of the Savannah River. This is far too close for most fans.
The vitriol exchanged between the fan bases was exacerbated when then South Carolina Head Coach, Steve Spurrier, declared Georgia to be the Gamecock’s “biggest conference rival”. Solidifying what the fan bases already knew to be true.
